Music’s biggest names are demanding action to protect fans from being ripped off. Dua Lipa, Coldplay, Sam Fender, Radiohead, The Cure and dozens more have signed a letter to UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, urging him to deliver on his promise to tackle online ticket touting.
Fans have long complained about resale sites where tickets are systematically snapped up and resold at eye‑watering prices. Research shows Oasis tickets at Wembley were listed for £4,442, while the Competition and Markets Authority found resale mark‑ups often exceed 50%.
Countries like Ireland and Australia already enforce resale caps, but the UK has yet to act—despite a government consultation earlier this year that floated a 30% price cap.
Artists argue that legislation is overdue. Bastille’s Dan Smith summed it up: “It seems crazy that fans aren’t protected from price hikes… with government support, people can stop getting ripped off and genuine fans can resell tickets at face value.”
